Call for Women in Biometrics (WiB)

The International Joint Conference on Biometrics (IJCB) 2025 is pleased to host a dedicated session on Women in Biometrics (WiB) – an initiative to recognise and amplify the contributions of women researchers in the biometrics community.

Despite the growing global reach and impact of biometrics, women remain underrepresented across academia, industry, and policy. This session aims to provide a supportive and visible platform for women researchers to share their scientific achievements, inspire the next generation, and foster new connections across continents.

Objectives

  • Showcase cutting-edge research by women in biometrics through short spotlight talks and poster spotlights.
  • Empower junior researchers and students by providing a platform for presentation and visibility.
  • Connect established and early-career women researchers through a dynamic panel discussion.
  • Celebrate the diversity and depth of contributions by women in our field.

How to Participate

We invite women authors of accepted IJCB 2025 papers to submit a proposal to present their work at the WiB session. Participation may be in the form of a spotlight presentation or poster, followed by a short networking opportunity.

  • Eligibility: The first author must be a woman.
  • Submission Requirements:
    • Paper ID (from IJCB 2025 – originally accepted paper’s ID) and Paper Title.
    • A brief abstract: main contribution of the work in 1-2 sentences only.
    • 1 page PDF (max 300 words) explaining the work and its impact.
  • Selection will prioritise diversity of topics, institutions, and career stages.
  • No separate review – the submission is based on already accepted IJCB 2025 papers.

Important Dates

  • WiB Presentation Submission Deadline: 21 August 2025
  • Notification of Selection: 22 August 2025
  • WiB Session: During IJCB 2025, 8 September 2025

Panel and Mentorship

The WiB session will feature a brief panel discussion with senior women leaders in biometrics, sharing their career journeys, experiences, and advice. The session will conclude with informal networking to foster peer support and future collaborations.

Open to All

While the presenters on stage will be women, all IJCB 2025 attendees, irrespective of gender, are warmly encouraged to attend, support, and celebrate this initiative. Non-authors can also join if you have registration to the IJCB 2025.
