Advances in Discrete Geometry for Computer Imagery

Aim, Scope and Topics

Discrete geometry plays an expanding role in the fields of shape modelling, image synthesis, and image analysis. It deals with topological and geometrical definitions of digitized objects or digitized images and provides both a theoretical and computational framework for computer imaging.
This special issue of CVIU is dedicated to the 16th International Conference on Discrete Geometry for Computer Imagery (DGCI 2011) which was held in Nancy, France, on April 6-8, 2011.

This special issue will focus on new advances in Discrete Geometry for Computer Imagery covering different aspects of image analysis. The call for papers is not limited to the participants of the conference and is open to all papers related to the main theme of the event. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

• Models for Discrete Geometry (grids, discrete objects, discrete model properties, digitization schemes, metrics,...)
• Discrete and Combinatorial Topology
• Geometric Transforms (image mappings, distance transformation, skeletons and medial axis,...)
• Discrete Shape Representation, Recognition and Analysis
• Discrete Tomography
• Morphological Analysis
• Discrete Modelling and Visualization
• Discrete and Combinatorial Tools for Image Segmentation and Analysis

Important Dates

	Submission of full manuscripts:	October 15 th, 2011 November 1 st, 2011
	Notification to authors:	December 15 th, 2011 February 15 th, 2011
	Submission of revised manuscripts:	February 15 th, 2012* April 30 th, 2012
	Final decision on accepted papers:	April 1st, 2012* June 30th, 2012

Submission Guidelines

This is an open call-for-papers from outside the DGCI 2011 conference, though a small number of participants of the conference was invited to submit a paper of their contribution. All submitted papers will be reviewed according to the guidelines and standards of CVIU. Only original, high-quality papers, in-line with the CVIU standard guidelines, will be considered for publication in this special issue. Submissions will be judged by their contributions to the special issue topic, clarity of presentation, potential impact to the field, and suitability to publication in an archival journal. All articles must be submitted electronically through the Elsevier CVIU website and use the detailed guidelines for CVIU articles. Please also include in the cover letter that the manuscript is intended for the "Special Issue on Advances in Discrete Geometry for Computer Imagery".
