S+SSPR Code of Conduct
Goal of the Code of Conduct. This Code of Conduct aims to foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment during the S+SSPR conference and in the fruition of the related social media content.Â
Who should follow the Code of Conduct. All the S+SSPR attendees and the related social media content users, as well as all the people involved in the organization, including organizers, sponsors, speakers, reviewers, and volunteers, should adhere to this code.
Inappropriate behaviors. Any behavior that, being unfair, can negatively impact the experience of a participant is considered inappropriate, including: (i) Offensive conduct or verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, age, disability, education, ethnicity, race, national origin, religion (or lack thereof), spiritual practice, politics, technology choices, physical appearance, body size, or any other personal characteristics; (ii) Bullying, intimidation, personal attacks, trolling, sustained disruption of talks; (iii) Stalking, inappropriate physical contact, unwelcome sexual attention, sexualised clothing/uniforms/costumes; (iv) The usage of pictures or recording to denigrate one or more participants or revealing their personal information to target them. (v) Encouraging others to violate this code of conduct.Â
The participant should also avoid using discriminatory words, such as blacklist and whitelist, and they must abstain from displaying violent, degrading, or sexualized images and videos when this is not extremely necessary to convey important messages related to the research that they are presenting. If it is necessary to use them, the authors should note this in the abstract and/or warn the audience at the beginning of the presentation.Â
Additional inappropriate behaviors for sponsors. Sponsors should not use images, activities, or other materials that are of a sexual, racial, or otherwise offensive nature. In case of violations, sanctions may be applied without return of sponsorship contribution.
What should be done in case of inappropriate behaviors. The first action to take is to request the person to stop the behavior. A person who is requested to stop such behavior is expected to comply immediately. If they continue perpetrating it, the person who experiences this behavior and the third subjects who notice it are highly recommended to report it.
Reporting inappropriate behaviors. An inappropriate behavior, as well as any question or concern related to it or to the Code of Conduct, can be reported by sending an email to ssspr.coc.violations@gmail.com. The reports made during the conference will be processed within 24 hours, whereas the others will be processed within two weeks.Â
Consequences of a report. The staff will investigate the reported incident to the best of their abilities; then, they will take the action that, in their sole discretion, is more appropriate, including, but not limited to: (i) An informal or formal warning; (ii) The expulsion from the conference with no refund; (iii) Reporting the incident to the offender's local institution or funding agency; (iv) Reporting the incident to the appropriate law enforcement authority; (v) Reporting the incident to the social media platform hosting the online contents.Â
