Prizes and Special Issues

The best IWBF 2020 paper will be awarded a monetary prize - "Computers Journal Best Paper Award" - sponsored by MDPI's Computers .

A special issue is being organised in IEEE Transactions on Biometrics, Behavior, and Identity Science (TBIOM) . Authors of the best papers presented at IWBF 2020 will be invited to publish extended versions of their work in this special issue.

The IWBF 2020 organisers invite academia, industry researchers and practitioners to showcase their work in biometrics and forensics through demonstrations. We are searching for interactive displays of innovative methods, systems and applications within the workshop’s topics of interest.

Proposal Submission

Interested parties should submit a short proposal document (maximum 2 pages) including:

• (1) a short abstract describing the demonstration: the methods/systems, their context, goals, and results
• (2) reference to submitted manuscripts or publications associated with the demonstration (if any)
• (3) a list of needed space/facilities/equipment not brought by the authors
• (4) pictures or schematics of the demonstration setup (optional)
• (5) a list of previous conferences/events where the demonstration was performed, and any changes made since then.

Authors should follow carefully all instructions and guidelines and submit the demo proposal document in the IEEE conference style and use the respective template. Manuscripts must be submitted in PDF format using the Microsoft CMT submission system using the link in the 'Submissions' section.

The IWBF Doctoral Consortium aims to provide a platform for current and prospective Ph.D. students to present their ideas and ongoing research, meet other researchers, and obtain feedback from well-known advisers about possible directions for their future research. The doctoral consortium is a great opportunity for students to discuss the strengths/weaknesses of different research proposals, as well to show/present some preliminary results. Also, it should promote the brainstorming about exciting opportunities in the forensics/biometrics domains of knowledge.

Accepted submissions will be presented at the Doctoral Consortium and published in the workshop proceedings. One mentor will be nominated for each candidate/student, and there will be opportunity for both bilateral meetings (mentor and student) and multilateral meetings (all mentors and students) during the consortium, in order to obtain constructive feedbacks for each prospective work plan.

Application and Submission

The students should write a short abstract (summary), with a maximum of 2 pages and a short presentation, clearly identifying: the problem statement; main hypotheses; main difficulties; ongoing research; further directions.

Prospective authors are invited to submit original and unpublished work, in English, with up to 6 pages including results, figures and references. (overlength submissions will not be reviewed).

Authors should follow carefully all instructions and guidelines provided in the IEEE conference style and use the respective template. Manuscripts must be submitted in PDF format using the Microsoft CMT submission system .

The review process is double-blind, so be sure to remove any elements that may identify any of the authors or their affiliations. It is also important to adapt the narrative to avoid disclosing the identity of the authors (e.g., when referring to prior work, instead of writing 'previously, we have found x' you should write 'previously, Author et al. have found x').

Abstract submission is optional but encouraged until January 10th, 2020.
Full paper submission deadline is February 15th, 2020 (Anywhere on Earth - UTC-12 ).

Accepted Papers

Accepted papers will be chosen for either an oral presentation or poster presentation. For a paper to be included in the conference proceedings, at least one author is required to:

• be registered with a *full registration* by March 27, 2020; (*full registration* types are: Researcher-Standard; Researcher-Member IAPR/IEEE; or Student-Standard.)
• attend the workshop to either give the oral presentation or present a poster in the poster session (papers may not be presented by third parties).

Every paper must have at least one author registered (with a *full* registration) by March 20, 2020. Each *full* registration covers at most 1 (one) paper (for the paper to be published in the conference proceedings as mentioned in the previous point).

Attendance

Attendance to the conference is limited to the available seats. Those who wish to attend the conference are advised to register, following the given instructions on the conference website. Registration on-site is possible but subject to availability. You are NOT required to be an author of a paper to attend IWBF2020.

Student Registrations

Students must send a certificate of their status as a full time student. The registration process will only be complete when the organization sends the registration confirmation.

Registration Types

Full Registration Fees include attendance to all conference sessions, coffee-breaks, lunch and a (TBD) social event on the evening of the first day of the conference; attendance certificate (will only be emitted to registered authors); access to the conference materials (by download); publication of accepted papers in IEEE Xplore and mention in the official program.

Doctoral Consortium Registration Fees include attendance to all conference sessions, coffee-breaks, lunch - convivial lunch with mentors on the DC day - and a (TBD) social event on the evening of the first day of the conference; attendance certificate; access to the conference materials (by download); publication of the Doctoral Consortium accepted proposal in IEEE Xplore and mention in the official program.

Paper Presentations

Oral and Poster presentations: When you receive your acceptance notification for an oral presentation, you will be instructed regarding the time allocated for oral sessions. We recommend that you prepare slides carefully following the guidelines given and sparing enough time for introduction, summary, and questions from the audience. When you receive your acceptance notification for a poster presentation, you will be instructed regarding the poster size, orientation and other aspects.

No-show policy: Papers that are accepted for IWBF2020 must be presented at the conference by one of the authors. Any paper withdrawn after the notification deadline or papers that are not presented at the conference by an author shall be deemed a “no-show” paper and will not appear in the conference proceedings nor in IEEE Xplore. A paper may exceptionally be presented by a non-author only if this is previously approved by the Technical Program Chairs. Any such non-author presenter must be able to present the work and respond to questions with the same effectiveness as if they were an author. Requests for non-author presenters must be made by email no later than two weeks prior to the conference. Exceptions to this policy can be made at the discretion of the IWBF2020 Technical Program Chairs if evidence is provided that the no-show occurred because of circumstances beyond the control of the authors. No-show paper authors wishing to appeal must email the Technical Program Chairs no later than 7 days after the start of IWBF2020 and provide their supporting evidence. Appeals are decided by the Technical Program Chairs based on evidence provided. Examples of relevant evidence includes medical documents and visa rejection letters.

Refunds

Refunds can be requested (65% of the registration value minus €30 of administrative fees), but NO REFUNDS will be made after March 31, 2020. However, you are allowed to change the name on the registration without penalty. For refunds, please contact Elizabete Oliveira (elizabete.oliveira@tacongress.com).

Visas and Letters of Invitation

If you need a letter of invitation to apply for a visa, please send the following information to Sara Oliveira (sara.i.oliveira@inesctec.pt):

• Your FULL name, including salutation (Mr, Ms, Mrs);
• Passport information: number, issue date and place and expiration date;
• The paper title and number;
• Whether you want a hard copy or an email document (email is preferred) and your full mailing address or email address, as appropriate.

If you have not yet registered because the site is not functional yet, you may apply for a visa letter in advance. We will not issue visa letters without confirmation that you have registered and paid once the site is live. Please know that your letter will be turned around as quickly as possible. Any fraudulent requests will be reported to the proper authorities.
